I'm overly fond of singular trees. Not sure why, maybe I see myself as one.
This one sits outside a church on Stockton, one of three that used to stand as a group, like church goers hanging around and chatting after mass. In the last five years, the other two died, leaving this one lonely tree. It stands like a guardian just outside the doors of the church, rooted in place with no companions.
Everday, people like pass by, remember the good old days of three, and every Sunday, the church fills up with people seeking community grace, a chance to feel the presence of God within themselves and to experience it with their peers.
That tree will never be inside that church, may never again experience community with fellow trees. Its stuck on the outside, at a stand still, and sometimes people like me will take note and commiserate.
Oh wow. The cold medicine is really getting me down.
The church should paint something on that blank, sterile wall, give the tree a landscape or at least some other 'trees' to hangout with.
